Each Texas Hold’em game has a maximum of four rounds, followed by a showdown. Sometimes only one or two will be played; other times, all of them.
Pre-Flop + 1st Betting Round
Pre-flop is the first betting round that happens right after each player has received their two hole cards and before the first three community cards are revealed. In this round, players have the option to either call, raise, or fold, depending on how they like the cards they are dealt.
In this round, the small and the big blind have a choice. The small blind can call and add the remainder of the minimum bet, raise, fold, or save half of the bet. The big blind can check, raise, or fold if someone else has raised and they do not want to continue.
Flop + 2nd Betting Round
Flop is the second betting round when the first three community cards are revealed to the players. The players who remained in the game after the first round can now once again check, raise, call, or fold, depending on what the player before them did and what they want to do.
Turn + 3rd Betting Round
Turn is the third betting round when the fourth community card is introduced to the table. Players can now evaluate their possibilities and determine whether they have a chance of winning or not. Once again, players can check, call, raise, or fold in this round as well.
River + 4th Betting Round
River is the last betting round which happens after the fifth community card is added to the table. After all the players decide whether they want to check, raise, call, or fold, the remaining players go to the showdown.
Showdown
The showdown happens after four betting rounds have ended. This is the moment when all the remaining players (who didn’t fold) show their two hole cards and the winner is determined according to the strength of their hand.
